Founder Candace Nelson Confirms Closure After More Than a Decade Under Private‑Equity Ownership

Sprinkles Cupcakes, the boutique chain celebrated for inventing the cupcake vending machine, announced that it will cease operations at the end of the year. The decision came as a surprise to fans and industry observers alike.

In a brief statement, co‑founder Candace Nelson said, “We have made the difficult decision to close Sprinkles after a wonderful decade of serving sweet moments to our customers.” She added that the brand had been sold to a private‑equity firm more than ten years ago, a move that eventually led to strategic shifts and the current shutdown.

Since opening its first store in 2005, Sprinkles grew into a national name, known not only for its signature cupcakes but also for the iconic Sprinkles Cupcake ATM that allowed customers to purchase fresh treats on demand. The vending machines, once hailed as a marketing marvel, became a cultural touchstone, appearing on television shows and in travel guides.

Despite the brand’s early success and a loyal following, the new owners reportedly faced challenges adapting the concept to changing consumer habits and a competitive dessert market. The closure will affect approximately 200 employees across its flagship locations and vending‑machine sites.

Fans are encouraged to visit remaining stores before the final day of operation to enjoy a “farewell cupcake” and share their memories of the beloved bakery.

Vay be, Sprinkles Cupcakes kapanıyor! Çocukluğumun en sevdiğim pastanelerden biriydi. Cupcake ATM’lerini hiç unutmayacağım.
