Environmental groups claim the agency’s leader has rolled back critical chemical safeguards

MAHA (the Movement for a Healthy America) announced today that its members are urging President Donald Trump to remove Lee Zeldin from his position as head of the Environmental Protection Agency. The coalition argues that Zeldin’s policies have significantly weakened protections against a range of toxic chemicals.

According to the group’s statement, Zeldin’s tenure has seen the EPA relax testing requirements, delay the enforcement of existing bans, and grant exemptions to industries that produce or use hazardous substances. “The agency is supposed to safeguard public health, not to open the door for more pollution,” said MAHA spokesperson Maria Alvarez.

MAHA points to several recent actions as evidence of the rollback:

  • The postponement of the mandatory review of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as “forever chemicals.”
  • The revision of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) guidelines, which now allow certain chemicals to remain on the market without rigorous safety data.
  • The reduction of funding for community monitoring programs in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Critics also note that Zeldin, a former congressman from New York, has a history of aligning with industry lobbyists. “His connections raise serious concerns about conflicts of interest,” added Alvarez.

MAHA’s demands and next steps

The organization has outlined a three‑point plan for the administration:

  1. Immediate termination of Lee Zeldin from the EPA.
  2. Appointment of a new director with a proven record of environmental advocacy.
  3. Restoration of the EPA’s original chemical safety standards, including the rapid reinstatement of PFAS testing.

MAHA is planning a series of rallies in Washington, D.C., and intends to submit a formal petition to the White House by the end of the month. The group urges the public to “stand up for clean air and water” and to contact their congressional representatives in support of the demand.

Çevresel gruplar haklı, Zeldin’in politikaları gerçekten endişe verici. Halk sağlığı için daha katı önlemler alınmalı.
