Norwegian Nobel Institute cites logistical hurdles despite the leader’s efforts

The Norwegian Nobel Institute confirmed that Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado will not be present at the upcoming Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to receive the award. The institute said that, although Machado and her team have explored every possible avenue to travel to Oslo, a combination of diplomatic restrictions and security concerns makes her attendance impossible.

“We have done everything within our power to facilitate her presence,” the institute’s spokesperson said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the circumstances surrounding her travel documents and the safety situation in her home country prevent a safe and lawful entry into Norway at this time.”

Machado, who was honored for her steadfast commitment to democracy and human rights in Venezuela, expressed her gratitude from abroad. In a brief video message, she thanked the Nobel Committee and emphasized that the award “strengthens the resolve of all Venezuelans fighting for a free and just society.”

The Nobel Committee reiterated that the prize will be presented to her representative, who will accept the medal on her behalf. The ceremony is scheduled for December 10, 2025, and the institute invited the international community to watch the event live.
