President Donald Trump announced a sweeping executive order designed to replace the patchwork of state-level artificial intelligence rules with a single, nationwide regulatory system. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, he emphasized the need for uniform standards to foster innovation while protecting public safety.
“The order would create one federal regulatory framework for artificial intelligence,” Trump said, adding that the new structure will streamline compliance for tech companies and eliminate conflicting state statutes.
The administration plans to task a newly formed federal agency with drafting detailed guidelines, overseeing AI development, and enforcing compliance across all sectors, from healthcare to finance.
State legislators, who have been crafting their own AI policies, are expected to align their laws with the federal blueprint within the next twelve months, according to the White House.
