Washington suspends tech‑trade pledge amid regulatory disagreements

The United States has put a hold on a proposed trade commitment that would have deepened cooperation with the United Kingdom in the technology sector.

Officials say the pause stems from broader disputes over the UK’s emerging digital‑platform regulations and its evolving food‑safety standards.

Both sides have been negotiating a wider agreement that would cover everything from data‑privacy rules to agricultural inspections, but recent talks revealed stark differences in how each country intends to enforce these measures.

U.S. trade representatives warned that without alignment on digital market rules and food safety protocols, the benefits of a more integrated tech partnership could be undermined.

British officials, while acknowledging the concerns, emphasized their commitment to modernising regulations and expressed optimism that a mutually acceptable solution can still be reached.

The suspension is temporary, and diplomats from both nations have pledged to resume negotiations next month, hoping to bridge the regulatory gap and revive the tech‑focused trade agenda.

ABD ve İngiltere arasındaki ticaret anlaşması beklenenden daha zor görünüyor. Teknoloji sektöründe iş birliğini derinleştirmek istiyorlar ama regülasyonlarda anlaşamıyorlar.
