For the second day running, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gathered in Berlin with a senior team of American diplomats to discuss a pathway to ending the war that has devastated Ukraine for over two years.
The American delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Special Representative for Ukraine and Eurasian Affairs Brett McGurk. Their talks focused on three core issues:
President Zelensky emphasized the urgency of a “realistic and comprehensive” peace framework, urging the United States to help close the gaps between Kyiv’s demands and Moscow’s proposals. He warned that without decisive diplomatic momentum, the conflict could drag on, further eroding regional stability.
Deputy Secretary Campbell replied that Washington remains “committed to a sovereign, democratic Ukraine” and is prepared to leverage its diplomatic and economic tools to facilitate a settlement. He reiterated that any agreement must respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and provide a clear roadmap for the withdrawal of Russian forces.
Both sides agreed to reconvene in the coming weeks, with plans to involve additional European partners and to explore confidence‑building measures on the ground. The outcome of these talks is expected to shape the next phase of international efforts aimed at ending the war.
