Documented Atrocities Include Murder, Detention, Torture, and Sexual Violence

The international human‑rights organization Amnesty International released a damning report this week, stating that Hamas and affiliated Palestinian armed groups committed a series of war crimes during their large‑scale attack on Israel in October 2023.

According to the findings, the militants carried out deliberate killings of civilians, including women and children, and engaged in the illegal imprisonment of hostages. The report also details instances of systematic torture—such as beatings, electric shocks, and forced deprivation of food and water—used to extract information or punish detainees.

Perhaps most disturbing are the allegations of sexual violence. Amnesty documents multiple cases in which women and girls were subjected to rape, sexual assault, and forced nudity as a method of intimidation and control.

“These acts constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions,” the organization’s spokesperson said, adding that the evidence was gathered from survivor testimonies, medical examinations, and on‑the‑ground investigations.

The report calls on the international community to pursue independent investigations, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure that victims receive the necessary support and reparations.
