Porto‑Novo, Benin – The government has refuted rumors that a faction of opposition soldiers attempted to overthrow the state. According to Interior Minister Olivier Dossou, the incident involved only a small group of disgruntled troops who staged a brief mutiny before being subdued.
The minister assured citizens that security forces have restored order and that there is no ongoing threat to the nation’s stability. “The situation is fully under control,” Dossou said during a press briefing, emphasizing that the mutiny was isolated and quickly contained.
President Patrice Talon has not yet addressed the episode publicly. His office declined to comment, leaving the nation awaiting an official statement from the head of state.
Analysts note that while the incident was limited in scope, it highlights underlying tensions within the military and the political opposition. Authorities have pledged a thorough investigation to determine the motives behind the soldiers’ actions and to prevent any future unrest.
