For the second consecutive day, the People’s Liberation Army launched a series of coordinated exercises aimed at demonstrating its capacity to isolate Taiwan by force. Strategic bombers roared over the Taiwan Strait while long‑range artillery rattled the island’s coastline, and a flotilla of warships maneuvered to enforce a simulated maritime choke point.
Beijing describes the drills as a “real‑world combat readiness test,” meant to showcase the PLA’s ability to impose a naval and aerial blockade. Analysts say the show of force is intended to send a clear political signal to both Taiwan’s leadership and its international supporters.
Western governments have voiced concern, warning that such activities raise the risk of miscalculation in an already tense region. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s defense officials stressed that the island remains vigilant and prepared to counter any attempt to restrict its freedom of movement.
