The recent wave of protests that swept through Nepal's streets was sparked by a government-imposed ban on social media platforms, but for many young people, the issue runs much deeper. The country's dire economic situation has left a generation feeling disillusioned and disheartened, with many seeing no future for themselves in Nepal. The ban on social media, which was eventually lifted after a few days, was just the latest blow to a population that feels increasingly disconnected from the government and its priorities. For young Nepalis, the lack of opportunities and the uncertain economic outlook have become major concerns. With a youth unemployment rate of over 15%, many are finding it difficult to make ends meet, let alone plan for the future. The country's economy has been struggling in recent years, with a large trade deficit and a dwindling foreign exchange reserve. The situation has become so dire that for many, emigrating to another country seems like the only viable option."I don't see a future for myself in Nepal," said 22-year-old student, Rohan. "The economy is in shambles, and there are no jobs. I'm considering going abroad to study and work. It's the only way I can see a chance to build a better life."Rohan is not alone. Thousands of young Nepalis are leaving the country every year, seeking better opportunities abroad. Many are heading to countries like the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, where they hope to find work and build a brighter future. The brain drain is a worrying trend for Nepal, which can ill afford to lose its brightest and best young minds. The country's aging population and lack of skilled workers are already major concerns, and the exodus of young people is only exacerbating the problem. The government has promised to address the economic issues and create more job opportunities, but so far, little seems to have changed. For many young Nepalis, the situation seems hopeless, and the prospect of leaving their homeland is becoming increasingly appealing. As one young protester put it, "We're not just fighting for social media; we're fighting for our future. We want to be able to live in a country that offers us opportunities and a chance to thrive. If not, we'll have no choice but to look elsewhere."
