Couple seeks compensation after waking up covered in bites

A couple staying at a high‑end country resort just outside Paris discovered they had been bitten by bedbugs in the middle of the night. The infestation left them with painful welts and a mountain of expenses for medical treatment and professional cleaning, totaling $800.

Despite presenting receipts and a detailed account of the incident, the hotel’s management declined to reimburse any of the costs. The guests also requested that their remaining nights be complimentarily covered as a goodwill gesture, but the resort maintained that it was not responsible for the alleged infestation.

“We woke up covered in bites and had to seek immediate medical attention,” the couple said in a statement. “We expected the hotel, which prides itself on luxury, to take responsibility and at least offer us a complimentary stay for the inconvenience.”
