Attorney General Letitia James files lawsuit alleging unpaid labor

New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, has filed a civil lawsuit against United Parcel Service (UPS), accusing the company of a systematic pattern of wage theft targeting its seasonal workforce.

According to the complaint, UPS “repeatedly and persistently” failed to compensate seasonal employees for the full hours they worked, including time spent on training, breaks, and other job‑related activities.

The filing alleges that the company’s practices violated state labor laws and left thousands of workers without the wages they rightfully earned during the busy holiday season.

James’ office says the lawsuit seeks back pay, liquidated damages, and penalties for each affected employee, as well as injunctive relief to prevent future violations.

UPS has not yet responded to the allegations, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for early next year.
