Veteran Sotheby’s Professionals Turn Their Focus to the Secondary Market

The seasoned auction house veterans Marc Pace, Carla Di Donna and David Schrader have announced a joint venture to open a dedicated gallery space on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The new venue will specialize in the secondary market—the buying and selling of artworks that have already left the artist’s studio.

According to the partners, the gallery will provide collectors with a more intimate, advisory‑driven experience than the traditional auction setting. “Our goal is to create a place where collectors feel comfortable exploring the rich history of each piece, while also receiving the expertise and market insight that comes from decades of auction house experience,” said Pace.

Located near the cultural corridor of Museum Mile, the space is slated to open in the spring of 2026. In addition to curated exhibitions, the gallery plans to host regular talks, private viewings, and collaborative projects with museums and artists.

Di Donna emphasized the importance of transparency in secondary‑market transactions: “We want to demystify pricing, provenance and condition reports so that both seasoned collectors and newcomers can make informed decisions.”

Meanwhile, Schrader highlighted the team’s commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing: “Every work we bring to the gallery will be vetted for authenticity and provenance, ensuring that we uphold the highest standards of stewardship in the art world.”

The trio’s combined expertise—spanning contemporary, modern, and post‑war art—positions the new gallery as a pivotal hub for high‑quality secondary‑market sales on the Upper East Side.
