No passengers were injured when a passenger train partially derailed after striking a herd of elephants on a railway line in central India. The train came to a halt shortly after the impact, and emergency teams were quickly dispatched to the site.
Authorities confirmed that seven elephants lost their lives in the collision. The sudden crash caused a brief derailment but, fortunately, did not result in any human casualties.
As elephant habitats continue to shrink because of development and deforestation, such deadly encounters are becoming increasingly common. Conservationists are calling for stronger measures—such as improved fencing, early‑warning systems, and alternative routing—to safeguard both human travelers and endangered wildlife.
