Polish Railway Explosion Determined to Be Sabotage, Says Prime Minister

Donald Tusk condemns attack on a key supply route to Ukraine

The Polish government has confirmed that the explosion that damaged a railway line on Monday was a deliberate act of sabotage. Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters that “unidentified saboteurs attempted to blow up a train on a route that is crucial for delivering humanitarian aid and military supplies to Ukraine.”

The blast occurred near the town of Kościerzyna, where a freight train carrying food, medical equipment and ammunition was scheduled to pass. Although the train was not on the tracks at the moment of the explosion, the damage forced an immediate suspension of traffic on the line, prompting concerns over delays in the aid pipeline.

Security forces have launched a full‑scale investigation, deploying bomb‑disposal units and forensic teams to collect evidence. Police spokesperson Jan Kowalski stated that “pre‑liminary analysis points to the use of an improvised explosive device, likely placed on the tracks.”

Prime Minister Tusk emphasized that Poland will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the country’s support for its eastern neighbor. “We will bring those responsible to justice and strengthen the protection of our critical infrastructure,” he said.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with both Ukrainian and Russian officials closely monitoring the situation. The European Union has pledged additional resources to help Poland secure its transport corridors, and NATO allies have expressed solidarity with Warsaw.

As investigations continue, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near railway facilities. The government has also announced a temporary increase in patrols and the installation of additional surveillance cameras along the affected stretch of track.
