Widespread Outages Hit Ukraine’s Biggest Black Sea Hub

Odesa, Ukraine – On Saturday, large parts of the country’s principal Black Sea port were left without electricity, heating, and running water after a series of Russian air and missile attacks. The assault came at a time when diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have shown little progress.

The bombardment targeted critical infrastructure, including power substations and water‑treatment facilities, plunging residential districts and commercial zones into darkness. Residents described the scene as chaotic, with emergency crews scrambling to restore basic services.

Ukrainian officials condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of using force to undermine ongoing peace talks. “These attacks are a clear signal that Russia is not serious about a negotiated settlement,” said a spokesperson for the Ukrainian defense ministry.

International observers expressed concern over the humanitarian impact. The United Nations called for an immediate cease‑fire and unhindered access for aid workers to assist those affected by the loss of essential utilities.

Despite the devastation, the port’s authorities reported that some cargo operations continued under limited conditions, as ships were redirected to alternative berths to keep vital exports moving.

Analysts warn that further escalation could cripple Ukraine’s economic lifeline and hamper any future diplomatic resolution.
