The internationally recognised government of Yemen, backed by Saudi Arabia, announced today that it will dispatch military forces to retake areas currently controlled by a separatist faction supported by the United Arab Emirates.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions in the southern part of the country, where the UAE‑backed group has established de‑facto authority over several key districts. President Rashad al‑Alimi’s administration says the operation is essential to restore national unity and safeguard critical supply routes.
Saudi officials have welcomed the plan, describing it as a necessary step toward stabilising the region and curbing external interference. Meanwhile, diplomatic sources note that the United Nations is urging both sides to avoid civilian casualties and to pursue a political dialogue alongside any military action.
If successful, the government’s offensive could shift the balance of power in southern Yemen, weakening the separatists’ hold on strategic ports and infrastructure. However, analysts warn that escalated fighting might exacerbate the humanitarian crisis that has already displaced millions.
Yemen’de durum gerçekten çok karışık. Umarım hükümetin bu operasyonu bir an önce barışa ve istikrara yol açar.
