Brussels – Ukrainian President Calls for Funding to Keep Drone Production Alive

Speaking before a gathering of European Union heads in Brussels, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that without the infusion of frozen Russian funds, Ukraine would be forced to scale back a crucial component of its defence: the production of combat drones.

“Our ability to strike enemy positions, protect our cities and support our allies depends heavily on the drones we build here,” Zelensky said, emphasizing that the technology has become a “lifeline” on the front lines.

The president highlighted that the current budget shortfall threatens to cut drone output by as much as 30 %, a reduction that could diminish Ukraine’s capacity to counter Russian advances.

He appealed directly to EU officials, urging them to unlock the billions of euros held in frozen Russian assets and channel them to Ukraine’s defence budget. “These resources belong to the aggressor,” Zelensky argued. “Redirecting them to our fight is both a moral and strategic imperative.”

EU leaders responded with a mix of support and caution, acknowledging the urgency of Ukraine’s request while noting the need for a coordinated legal framework to manage the assets.

As the summit continues, the discussion around the frozen funds is expected to shape the next phase of financial assistance for Ukraine, with the potential to keep its drone programme—and broader war effort—fully operational.

Bu haber beni çok düşündürüyor. Ukrayna’nın savaş çabalarına destek vermek için Avrupa Birliği’nin harekete geçmesi gerekiyor.
